Appendicitis is the inflammation of the appendix, a small pouch attached to the large intestine. It is a surgical emergency — if the appendix bursts, it can cause life-threatening peritonitis. Laparoscopic appendectomy is the standard cure.
Sudden pain that starts near the navel and shifts to the lower right abdomen · Loss of appetite · Nausea and vomiting · Low-grade fever · Pain that worsens with movement, coughing or deep breathing
Clinical examination, a complete blood count (raised WBC), and abdominal ultrasound or CT scan. Diagnosis is usually made within 2 hours of arrival.
Laparoscopic Appendectomy — the inflamed appendix is removed through 3 small keyhole incisions in 30–60 minutes. Most patients are discharged the next day and resume work within a week.
