Myringotomy is a quick procedure where a tiny incision is made in the eardrum to drain fluid from the middle ear. Often combined with grommet (ventilation tube) insertion in children with persistent ear fluid.
Persistent ear fluid (in children) · Recurrent middle ear infections · Hearing difficulty · Speech delay in children due to hearing loss
Otoscopic examination, tympanometry shows flat tracing, audiometry confirms conductive hearing loss.
Daycare procedure under general anesthesia (children) or local (adults). 15-minute procedure. Grommet remains for 6–18 months and falls out naturally. Same-day discharge.
