PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) and PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease) are hormonal conditions where the ovaries develop multiple small cysts and produce excess androgens. They affect 1 in 10 Indian women and are managed with lifestyle changes, medication, and regular monitoring.
Irregular or absent periods · Excess facial and body hair (hirsutism) · Acne and oily skin · Weight gain (especially around abdomen) · Hair thinning on scalp · Difficulty conceiving · Dark patches on skin
Diagnosed using the Rotterdam criteria — irregular periods, signs of high androgens, and polycystic ovaries on ultrasound. Hormonal blood tests (LH, FSH, testosterone, AMH) and pelvic ultrasound.
Multidisciplinary treatment — diet and exercise plan, hormonal regulation (oral contraceptives or metformin), fertility treatments if needed. No surgery for most cases. Long-term follow-up critical.
Doctor consult, hospital admission, insurance paperwork, surgery, post-op follow-up — your care manager handles everything.
