Thyroid function tests (TSH, T3, T4), neck ultrasound, FNAC of any suspicious nodule, CT/MRI for retrosternal extension.
Performed under general anesthesia through a small horizontal neck incision. 1.5–2 hours. Hospital stay 1–2 days. Lifelong thyroid hormone replacement may be required after total thyroidectomy.
